The Deathly Hallows

When I was a kid, I wanted to be a scientist - invent things, discover things, create new things. But then, I realised it took years and years of dedicated effort to invent or discover something new. I wanted quick results. And realised this wasn't the best path to go down.

Later, I wanted to make a living by trading in stocks. But then, I realised that it took hours of work each day to understand patterns in the market movement to beat the market. I wanted easy results. After all, I wasn't really interested in trading in stocks. I only wanted to make a living doing it to allow myself time to do other things that I loved.

Still later, I wanted to startup. But then, I realised that it took years of dedicated effort to stand up a company from scratch before it was a place where other people wanted to come and work. It didn't help that I didn't have a burning desire to build the product that I was building. Four months down, I folded.

The seventh book in the Harry Potter series is about the deathly hallows - the three objects that together are thought to make the one who possesses them a master of death.

The three objects are - the Elder wand, which is the most powerful wand; the resurrection stone, which can summon people from the dead; the invisibility cloak, which can make the wearer of the cloak completely invisible.

While we don't have any of these magical objects in our world, we do have three things that will make the one who possesses them invincible.

And these are the three things that I've highlighted in my three little stories above.

Being OK with the fact that results won't be quick.
Being ready to work very hard.
Truly believing in what you're working on.

Having one or two of them is sometimes good enough to be very strong. Acquire all three and there is no stopping you.
