And then what will you do?

If your company is going bankrupt...
If you are going bankrupt...
If you are going to lose your job...
If you are going to get a job...
If you are going to fail that test...
If you are going to fall short of your fitness goal...

...what happens? What will you do after that? How bad are the consequences going to be?

Sometimes, the consequences are not so dire. And sometimes, they are.

But, if we don't consider what we are going to do and how we are going to react once a certain event happens, that event scares us and clouds our judgement.

Ask yourself what you would do once the event happens, if it was a certainty that it would happen. Then you can decide to start doing it right away, or work super hard to ensure what you dread doesn't happen in the first place.

The stoics call this negative visualization. Although, in stoicism, negative visualization is simply a technique of visualizing everything bad that could happen to us today, and then feel grateful that none of those have happened. It is directed at helping us appreciate what we do have today.

But there are many ways we can use negative visualization.

One of those is to ask ourselves...

...and then what will we do?
