Sustained moderate effort

The key to long-term success lies in sustained moderate effort.

Sustained, because short bursts of effort might be good for hitting deadlines now and then, but they are short by definition and don't take a long-term view.

Moderate, because it is impossible to sprint a marathon. We'll collapse long before the end if we try to. And it is impossible to slowly walk a marathon either, as there is a time limit within which the distance ought to be completed. The right balance needs to be struck.

When you set out to achieve something, be ready to put in sustained moderate effort.
