When somebody who has already established their credibility shows their vulnerable side, their credibility grows even more. 

However, when somebody who hasn't established their credibility and isn't trusted yet, shows their vulnerable side, then their credibility falls even more. 

And this is true when even when the vulnerable act is exactly the same for both these people.
